What's going on at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston and Burghfield?
- 2010-09-08 10:29NAG has submitted an objection to the 'Project Hydrus' planning application at the Atomic Weapons Establishment. The application is expected to be determined by West Berkshire Council on 29th September 2010.
- 2010-08-24 12:20NAG has written to the Planning Inspector who will be conducting the Boundary Hall public inquiry to give our views on development in the vicinity of Atomic Weapons Establishment sites. Public safety must come first, according to NAG, and the Inspector should turn down the application for a proposed housing development close to the AWE Aldermaston perimeter fence on the Boundary Hall site. NAG has written to the Local Government Ombudsman to complain about the manner in which the planning application for a controversial new nuclear warhead assembly / disassembly facility at AWE Burghfield was handled by West Berkshire Council.

Ministry of Defence proposals to build a new nuclear weapons factory just outside Reading highlight concerns about the safety of the population around nuclear sites and would breach government guidelines on development in flood risk zones, according to NAG.
West Berkshire Council decided in early March to grant planning permission to the Ministry of Defence for construction of a new ‘main process facility’ at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire, despite fierce local opposition to the proposal.
